What are some of the biggest Pride events and celebrations in video games for 2025?

2025 is a very tough year for Pride Events. Especially in a world where hate crimes are basically encouraged through a remarkably troubling group of politicians, many IRL events have been a bit more subdued. And, honestly, the ones that are still going can feel a little tense.
Luckily, many online spaces have created ways for people to self identify and celebrate safely, often with the knowledge that hate stands far less of a chance, and, weirdly, it's in the realm of online games.
Sure, if your only experience with online games comes from Call of Duty and other such games you're probably in disbelief right now because those are the kind of places 12-year-olds like to get on and echo everything their red hatted stepdads like to shout onto their Tik-Tok videos. But over the recent years, many games have come to the realization that, yes Virginia, LGBTQ+ people exist and in huge numbers.
The massive crowds at Pride Parades? A lot of them game. The brave folk out there campaigning for equal rights? A lot of them game. Heck, the people in the Republican National Conventions that show up in a town and flood Grindr with so many requests for sex that the Grindr, a company with a $344 million a year profit margin, has their local servers for that area crash every damn time? Yup, a lot of them game.
And it's awesome! I still pour one out for Knockout City. One of the best multiplayer versus games I ever played that celebrated it from the jump without waiting for a special day to act as a go-ahead. Having the ally flag as my profile banner gave me the very ironic feeling of taking an enemy out and having that enemy learned that I was also an ally. Life is confusing. Deal.
So, without further ado, here's some of the best shows of Pride I've seen this year. And bear in mind we're only three days into Pride Month so this list will be added to over the month so save it in your favorites and check back!
Everquest II - Despite the MMO being 20 years young, they're still very active, especially when it comes to events like this. This year, they're bringing back a ridiculous amount of former companion pets from their previous year which is an impressive collection. Well, except for the fact that they had me immediately at Pride themed red pandas. I'm sorry, sold.
Guild Wars II - Speaking of MMOs that have been around forever. Guild Wars II does a really awesome thing where, every year, they hold the Tyria Pride events. This year, on the 28th and 29th players will gather and walk from one end of the map to the other as a parade while also raising money for the Rainbow Railroad which is one of the most badass organizations out there. (Note: This one is a tricky one to include only because it's an "official play-run event". While ArenaNet isn't hosting the event themselves, they are also giving out free rainbow wings during the event.)
Sea of Thieves - This one is small but kinda punk all at once. They're releasing a Pride Flag this year which can be used to adorn your ship and the like. Which, okay, in a game with a million flags it's a texture swap. But the punk bit is that it costs 1969 gold which, of course, is a reference to the Stonewall Riots. If you haven't studied up on it, do it. It's an amazing rabbit hole to get lost in and a huge moment for equal rights fights.
League of Legends - LoL is going all in all month with a whole event. There are a slew of cosmetics you can get including rainbow trails for your character, pride flag themed profile icons and emotes, and an IRL donation of $100,000 to oSTEM which helps LGBTQIA+ folk find rewarding careers in STEM based fields.
Overwatch 2 - Blizzard is working to make Pride very much a part of the Overwatch 2 world and during this event not only do you get a free Soldier 76 skin, but the Midtown map, that has people going through a city street, is adorned with a fresh new paint job to make it look as if as soon as you guys are done fighting, a Pride Parade is about to pour through.
And like I said, as more noteworthy things pop up I will try to get this list updated. And if you find any cool ones post it in the comments as well. And no, I am not counting Hearthstone as all they did was make a tweet about how they have primary colors in their art. WEAK.
