Warframe: 1999 rings in a new era for the beloved franchise

I giggled on my couch when Rebecca Ford took the stage at The Game Awards tonight and said that it’s okay to not know what Warframe is about because, even 12 years later, not even its creators know that answer.

And, as of tomorrow, December 13th, you can find out why that is when Warframe: 1999 becomes available everywhere and you get to play it for yourself.

Here are some things to look forward to in this new era for the beloved Warframe series:

  • expansive single-player campaign in which players work with members of The Hex and protect city of Hölvania against the Scaldra and Techrot

  • play as Cyte-09, the 59th Warframe, and use awesome weapons and techs combined with some fun abilities

  • four new mission types: Faceoff (Warframe’s first-ever PvPvE), Legacyte Harvest, Hell-Scrub, and the H-09 Efervon Tank Assassination

  • play Caliber Chicks 2, an original 90’s-era side-scroller game available in-game at the Hölvania Central Mall Arcade

  • fully customizable cosmetics

  • so much more fun stuff. Trust me.

You can watch the release date trailer below:

Another fun fact - it was also announced that Balatro, which won the Best Independent Game, Best Debut Indie Game, and Best Mobile Game awards at tonight’s The Game Awards, will now be available as part of the Friends of jimbo 3 update. With the update, players can now customize the King, Queen, and Jack cards with the iconic Excalibur, Mag, and Volt.

For a game that’s been evolving and expanding for 12 years, this new era is definitely going to refresh the Warframe franchise for veteran players and lure the fresh meat right in.
