ACOTAR fans rejoice: first draft of new book is complete

Sarah J. Maas

Book nerds have had a solid reason to rejoice lately! Sarah J. Maas broke the bookstagram community over the weekend when she announced she had completed the first draft of her upcoming new installment in the A Court of Thorns and Roses series.

At least someone is getting their books written. Looking at you, Martin and Rothfuss.

Since then, in a move that surprises no one, fans have been bickering about theories, threatening to burn down all her books if such-and-such becomes a villain, and demanding to know the release date, cover images, and title. Y'all - relax. First of all, this is only the first draft. Yay, she completed her story - now comes the fine-tuning and editing. This whole instant gratification and holding authors to ridiculous standards thing when it comes to pumping books out is disgusting.

Rant over. Anyway - hooray, SJM has finished her first draft! And she announced it through a really fun video. Now, the wait begins! But first, transparency: I have to confess I have only read the first ACOTAR book and... it wasn't quite my jam, and I haven't been motivated to pick up the second book, A Court of Mist and Fury, since.

ACOTAR books

Now, this might motivate me to pick it up. I'll be honest, though - I'd much rather have more Throne of Glass books and stories. The tale SJM built with that series is something I often go back to. Something about how Celaena Sardothien and her friends go about things and form their tight bond that just... sparks life in me every time I think back on it. Such an incredible series (with a disappointing ending, might I unfortunately add).

But, yes. While bookish girlies tell their friends to hold their lattes as they go to war over who will be right or wrong regarding ACOTAR's newest book and its plot twists, SJM will be editing that first draft carefully and taking her sweet ass time with it. We don't need her to rush through anything. Also, SJM is a human - let's not forget how we also feel towards work sometimes, even if it's something we truly love. Be a good person. Go read (or re-read, we don't judge - only encourage) ACOTAR or ToG and make friendly plot boards with your theories and "what ifs "for what will be one hot addition to an already hot series.

You can buy all of ACOTAR and Throne of Glass books in pretty much any bookstore or bookshop you walk into.
