Legitimate Space Corp Simulator looks to the future to create the most realistic flashback to my former retail experience ever

ree

It wasn't that long ago where I wrote that I will always be the guy to tackle the simulator games. I love them. So when the folks behind Legitimate Space Corp Simulator allowed me to try out their upcoming title I was all in.

The year is...I dunno...future times, and you're a human who gets a job working at a space station that functions as little more than an intergalactic truck stop. And the very first thing it tasks you with is pumping gas. Ships fly into the hanger, they will either want the blue stuff or the orange stuff, you grab the right pump, fill their tank, and then done.

But very soon you get a message from management that because you showed yourself mildly competent they've decided to "reward" you with more responsibilities. Suddenly you're repairing walls, cleaning up vandalism and trash, setting up store displays, stocking, ordering inventory, dealing directly with customers and so much more.

In fact, as my past experience will tell you, if you're curious what it means to work at a Gamestop below manager level, THIS is what it's like. You will have customers at the register waiting while you put up shelves and deal with inventory. It gave me flashbacks.

Another thing that reminded me of a past job was the cart.

I used to work at the Cleveland Hopkins airport in an underground warehouse and every morning it would be me and about 150 pounds of inventory on a cart, hauling ass on foot to get to the various stores in the airport by a certain time. You get to do that too!

It was weird though, as I hustled through the halls, selling stuff, fixing things, pumping gas, and more, I found myself calmed. When you get the hang of things, you can get a really good set up going allowing you to build a set up that works especially how intuitive most of the controls are. You scan items for sale by picking them up and dragging them over the scanner, you pick up items with grab and let go with the same button, you have a computer dedicated only to restocking the fuel depot. MOST of the controls are simple.

I say this because of one thing in particular.

You see this weird, almost phallic looking slime thingy? Remember it.

See, not everyone gets onto the station via a space ship. Some people teleport to your galactic truck stop. And while, apparently, they can get to you without your help they need you to send them back. You do this by doing the least intuitive mini-game I've ever played in which you have to tap a button to keep a circle in line with a dot. With a mouse it's...doable...ish. But with a controller or Steam Deck like I use? Fucking R.I.P.

My current space station has legions of these slime boys haunting my haul because if you don't get the teleporter mini-game correct, instead of sending them home, you horribly disfigure their entire molecular form and leave them as a giant olive green dick balloon cursed to wonder your halls, and my space station has more dick shaped balloons than a suburban bachelorette party.

Sure, you've played simulators in the past but how many give you the chance to have your entire game haunted by the many MANY people you've killed via mini-game?

Luckily, according to the game's early access roadmap, it does look like we'll get the option to upgrade it, but right now, as it is, that bit is a nightmare.

But, honestly, if you can deal with having the blood of innocent aliens on your hand, the rest of this game is pretty great with more and more things to unlock and explore giving you that good feeling of progression all good simulator games have.
