Science fiction romance and fantasy romance are two of the many romance subgenres that I've been knee-deep in for over a year now.
I've been lucky enough to ARC read for a few incredibly talented writers, and some of these series have become very dear to me. Today, I'm reviewing two excellent and fresh new entries in my collection: the sci-fi romance book King by Natalie Starkoss and the gladiator romantasy book Heir of Fate and Flame by M. K. Deoradhán. Though completely different subgenres under the romance umbrella, both books are equally wonderful and add quite a lot to both the Spliced Love series and the Blood and Bronze saga.
Below are my reviews for both books. As always, it's pretty spoiler-free.
King by Natalie Starkoss review

King picks up right where Prowl left off and introduces us to a new couple to obsess over and love. It follows the same dual POV as its prequel and continues the tale of some incredible hybrids and their female companions.
This book goes deeper into the compound and how everyone is adapting to the events of Prowl, with curious female humans and willing hybrids pursuing relationships with each other. We get to see what all that entails, meet new and fun characters, and we get a wonderful love story full of the heart-pounding moments that Natalie Starkoss has us sweating over since the first book.
It's just as good as Prowl and adds a lot more to the lore, pushing the series forward. I can't wait to see what the next book holds in store!
House of Fate and Flame by M.K. Deoradhán review

Heir of Fate and Flame, the second book in the Bronze and Blood saga by M. K. Deoradhán, is a wonderful example of how to do character arcs the right way.
The book picks up right where its prequel, Trial of Bronze and Blood, leaves off, and we're introduced to a second couple. We get a wonderfully written forced marriage trope, we get to see some more dragon action, and the humming magic truly shines.
Though I truly enjoyed the first book, Heir of Fate and Flame outdoes it by miles. The plot becomes more intense, emotions rise, and consequences are faced.
The MMC and FMC romance in this book is phenomenal. It's the kind of love that transcends the pages and lasts beyond a single mortal lifetime.
I highly recommend this whole series if you're into gladiator romance.
