Gamestop involved in class action suit. Pays out in the most Gamestop way possible.

Recently Gamestop was found the defendant in the Aldana v. GameStop, Inc. lawsuit in which they were found to have sold a ton of customer information to Facebook without any sort of consent. It was a massive breach of information, though, not uncommon. It was the "without consent" bit that cost them.
How much? $4,500,000.00 American. Which, is probably not far from how much they made from Facebook if not more.
But it's a class action suit so if you purchased a game from them within the last five years or so (you can find out more information on that over at the official site) you can receive a payment. And while you're probably hyped to see what a lawsuit like a 4.5 mil will get you, you'll have to remind yourself that this is Gamestop.
Here's a lit bit from the website. Note the highlighted area.

That's right, from this case worth 4.5 million you can either get five bucks cash or double that in store credit.
I know the judges are more in charge of that sort of thing, but two notes.
One, for real? The $10 store credit just brings in more money for Gamestop.
But two, just the fact that it mirrors the types of results they get meme'd to death for on their trades is astounding.
As for the case itself, their are quite a few things that you need to keep in mind if you're part of this.
One, it's in your best interest to get involved whether you want payment or not. Even if you chose to not take a payment, if you do not opt out, you cannot sue Gamestop for something like this again. Maybe you're hoping for a bigger pay out in a future case, maybe you just know Gamestop has done far worse. If you don't opt out, you can't sue them again so this will actually protect them if you do nothing.
Secondly, there is a more than likely chance that the amount in the settlement will drop further. Meaning if you decide to go all in on this one, don't be surprised if you get a dollar check months from now.
Thirdly, it's important to remember that while doing nothing means you can't sue them again, if you don't file a claim you also won't get paid for it. So if you ARE going to take part in this, you may as well get your coupon.
Fourth and final, you really need to remember that these class action suits do nothing but help a company out. The settlement means there's little to no media coverage and because of that so many people are going to ignore opting out and then finding out that Gamestop is protected from a future lawsuit by them. Don't cut off your options because you don't want to do a tiny bit of paperwork.
