If you've watched Arcane, Netflix's Emmy-winning original series based on the game that has dominated ̶m̶y̶ ̶h̶o̶u̶s̶e̶h̶o̶l̶d̶ ̶ the PC-gaming world since 2009 (aka, League of Legends), you probably remember the toughest, most badass warrior in recent League lore: ̶R̶i̶o̶t̶ ̶M̶o̶m̶m̶y̶ ̶ Ambessa Medarda.
I couldn't have been the only one wanting not only to see more of Ambessa, but to find out more about her origin story, or how she became the Noxian general and ultimate fatal knuckle sandwich deliverer she is. Luckily for us, the gods of League of Legends heard our cries and have indeed blessed us with a gift: a whole book about her journey.

Award-winning writer C. L. Clark has concocted a most epic of tales based off Netflix' Arcane and its lore, so yes - this book is absolutely canon.
The fact that the prologue is the written version of Ambessa's amazing theme song, "Blood, Sweat, and Tears" makes me want to drop what I am currently reading and start this now. The song is brought to life by the fantastic Sheryl Lee Ralph, who delivers the most breathtaking vocals in what has become an essential song in my playlist (that would be the entirety of Arcane's soundtrack, but that's a story for another time).
In her journey, Ambessa will find challenges like her cousin as he knows every single dirty deed she has ever done, every life she's taken, every reason behind decisions and won't allow her rise to power because of it all. We also get more time learning more about Ambessa's dynamic and relationship with Mel, her daughter, who will never be seen as anything more than a child to her mother.
