Pokemon Legends: Z-A Guide "Main Mission 19 - Reaching Rank D"

ree

This is part of our extensive guide to Pokemon Legends: Z-A

NOTE: I went with a male presenting character so my character's bestie will be Taunie. If you went with one of the more female presenting ones you'll be friends with Urbain instead.

You're sitting in the lobby after the last batch of Rogue Megas and you get a notification that you've gotten a promotion match for Rank E.

You're to face Trainer Ivor. Remember him? The Fist of Justice guy that's like "YOU SHOULD PUNCH POKEMON"?

ree

This is me giving him the look of someone who's not mad, just disappointed.

I'm told their dojo is near Jaune Plaza. God, it's gonna be fighting types isn't it.

So, you're going to have to earn 35,000 points to gt your Challenger's Ticket so best get on that.

Head down to the dojo marked on the map and you're going to encounter Josée, the person who's butt you whooped when you first met Ivor. She asks you for a rematch.

Josée of the Fist of Justice throws out Machoke and Medicham. Fairy and Psychic attacks will get you through this in seconds.

When you win she gives you a Seed of Mastery. She tells you that if you bring her Seeds like that, she can help you upgrade a Pokemon's move into Plus Moves.

She then tells you the big news. Ivor is in another castle. Yup, he's not home. Nor his sister Gwynn, which Josée admits is suss as heck.

Ivor comes running in screaming for Gwynn. He can't find her and he can't battle you because Gwynn does all the phone stuff for him including the Z-A Royale App. He says he's going to run out and find her and won't battle you until then. Cool. Josée then asks if you know someone good at finding people. YES, give me an excuse to talk to Emma.

You get to the Looker bureau and find Ivor already talking to Emma. They talk about how Gwynn likes hanging out at City Hall for some reason. Guess we're heading there.

Head on over to City Hall and...yup, she's not there. So you need to canvas the area and talk to people. If you want to skip meeting wonderful sociopaths like this guy...

fff

...head on over to the fountain and talk to a man in a grey hoodie. He tells you she often hangs out at a cafe near Centrico Plaza with a friend of hers. Teleport to the Nouveau Cafe just south of the town center. It's the food truck you keep ending up at.

Nope, no dice here either. Time to talk to strangers.

Apparently she was here with the "DYN4MO girl" earlier. So time to go visit Canari. Canari is VERY annoyed that I gave out her address which, honestly, yeah that was a bad thing to do.

ree

Canari agrees to say where Gwynn is if she can have a rematch with you as revenge for beating her earlier. Go ahead and do it.

Canari of DYN4MO comes at you with Heliolisk, Stunfisk, Ampharos, and Elektross whom she Mega Evolves. If you have Ground type moves this is the time to use them. The first three are actually pretty weak but Mega Elektross is a beast. Also, be careful because they will throw spikes all over the place.

After beating her Canari mentions that Gwynn (G-Volt as she calls her) sometimes games with her but has been looking for a place all to herself. A "place that can't be found in the world." Where the X, Y, and Z axes don't meet up. Oh, and also Gwynn mentioned needing to beat a Pokemon whose type her partner was weak to.

Ivor mentions her Pokemon is Chandelure and...oh my god, it's the goth girl from Canari's Quiz! I wanted to know who that was. Good world building, Pokemon!

After some talking, it's determined that Gwynn is likely at a fountain. A fountain depicting a Pokemon that Chandelure is weak against. And as Chandelure is Ghost and Fire, and the fountain options are Florges, Clawitzer, Heatmor, and Floette...I'm going to guess the Fire Type in Chandelure ain't a fan of the Water Type Clawitzer.

Time to head over to the Clawitzer Fountain in Bleu Sector 7.

Once there you meet up with Ivor and Emma. They realize that they need to head into the sewers but the water from the fountain is making it tough so Emma asks you to freeze the water with Ice Beam. Hey, guess what my trusty Froslass has on her?

When that happens, before you can say Water Temple the water trains leaving behind a passage. Let's head to the sewers where I'm told to watch for wild Pokemon.

ree

I ran into Noibats, Scraggys, and Inkays. All until I ran into a locked gate because oh my god why is this mission so long? We can't figure out where the keys are though...oh no...is Klefki in this damn game?

So to get it you need to catch it WITHOUT knocking it out so make sure you stick with moves that have the triangle on it so you know they're not super effective. Once you get it return to the lock.

It doesn't have the key to the lock. IT DOESN'T HAVE THE KEY TO THE LOCK. I'm going to die in this mission, of old age.

I've gotten to the point that I finally agree with Ivor's want to just punch through the lock.

Once you're through keep following the way points. You'll encounter Gastly, Skrelp, Klefki, Patrat, and Litwick before you meet up with the gang again. You end up in a dead end, looking around. Investigate everything in the room until you get a cut scene.

Ivor decides to just start breaking things when he realizes that one of the walls is merely an illusion. Thank god. Head on through and you'll be met with one last hallways and then, finally...

Gwynn states that if we want to know why she's in the sewers we must defeat her in battle. Emma heals up my Pokemon and leaves it to me because of course she does.

Gwynn of the Fist of Justice throws out a Banette first, followed by Gourgeist, then Chadelure which she...Mega Evolves?! They gave my dude Chandelure a Mega Evolution?! YES!

ree

Luckily, my Mega Feraligatr had Liquidate+ but it was so pretty.

After the battle Gwynn says she's down there because Ivor is a massive pain with her having to handle all his day to day operations like dealing with complaints of him smashing stuff. She then tells me she'd love to see me thrash him.

You all head back up and head to the Justice Dojo so we can finally get this over with. It's FINALLY time to fight Ivor.

Ivor of the Fist of Justice starts off with Heracross (who is weak to Psychic, Fairy, Flying, and Fire), then a Machamp (who's weak to Psychic, Flying, and Fairy), Medicham (who is weak to Fairy, Flying, and Ghost), and finally Falinks whom he Mega Evolves immediately.

Oh. My. God.

...AND I'LL FORM THE HEAD
...AND I'LL FORM THE HEAD

Mega Falinks is weak to Flying, Psychic, and Fairy being a being of pure Fighting Type.

After beating him, your rank gives you the D (I said that). Then Ivor thanks you and gives you a small gift, the TM011 Bulk Up.

Mission (finally) Complete!
