When I read the words "Magic: The Gathering is getting its own cinematic universe" yesterday, I literally couldn't help myself from exclaiming "IT'S ABOUT DAMN TIME!"
It's 2025 and gaming giants like Fallout and League of Legends are getting adaptations left and right, and damn good ones at that, and it has all but helped each franchise grow deeper and introduce new and fun features to the already exciting games we love so much. According to Hollywood Reporter, Hasbro has caught the cinematic universe bug and has joined the chat. Honestly, the fact that Hasbro has waited this long to bring its famous tabletop and digital collectible card game, Magic: The Gathering, to the big and silver screens is simply wild.
Legendary Entertainment, the folks responsible for bringing my beautiful Godzilla and his MonsterVerse to life, will be working on adapting the game into a movie, and then possibly expand to spin-offs or a series. Much like League of Legends, MTG has so much lore entwined into its different sets and different IPs, and they come with incredible art and cinematics to fuel our imagination. With a cinematic universe coming up, I cannot express the level of excitement that my little lore-loving self is feeling. I also cannot wait to see how they bring cards and their uniqueness to life, whether they're a planeswalker or simply a sorcery card.
This game is responsible for turning nice folks like me into complete assholes in two single card flips, and in the very long 23 years that I've had to try and master it, I've purposely avoided it. Though I do have a very nice collection of cards that just sit there, I am very much the worst at the game. Nevertheless, there are others out that that love to torture themselves and test their friendships with MTG, going to weekly practice at games stores to regional and national tournaments all over the country.
As more details on this cinematic universe are revealed, make sure you check out Magic: The Gathering's official website for more news and information on the game itself.
