Spring has sprung! Well, at least in League of Legends

Updated: Apr 16

Ionia

It is still cold as hell up North where I unfortunately live, but at least things are looking pretty and nature-y in League of Legends, so that's nice.

Season 2 starts this month with a lot of updates and new Spirit Blossom skins - which look absolutely gorgeous. More champions stepping into Ionia means more Spirit Blossom lore and more options when it comes to legendary power dressed in pretty Spring colors. From a better reporting system (screw you, trolls) to a new game mode, Riot Games has quite the list of updates for us.

Also - new champion incoming, no biggie.

I won't touch on every single topic mentioned in their newest Dev Update video, but you can watch the entire thing below:

Let's talk about the important stuff first: pretty skins.

League of Legends: new Spirit Blossom skins

Spring is in the air (where??) and so are these beautiful new additions to the Spirit Blossom skins: Spirit Blossom Lux, Ashe, Irelia, Zyra, Varus, Bard, and Ivern.

Prestige Spirit Blossom Lux and Ivern will be available through the Act 1 paid pass.

But the spring celebrations don't stop there - Riot Games is partnering up with producer and instrumentalist Dabin and supporting his North American festival, Stay in Bloom, as well as NY-based designer Yumin Ha to make some adorable Spirit Blossom-inspired merch. The Stay in Bloom festival is known for hosting epic talent, and there are two planned dates for the festivities.

NEW LEAGUE OF LEGENDS CHARACTER
NEW CHAMPION ALERT!

And to finish off the Spirit Blossom-ness, a new song and video have been released! YOASOBI singer-songwriter Lilas and BAFTA-nominated composer Kevin Penkin deliver a beautiful performance over some fantastic cinematics depicting champions like Ashe, Morgana, Irelia, Ivern, and more living their lives in Ionia as spring (and not just spring) arrives. You know what that means - there's a new champion coming! Her name is Yunara, and not a lot of details have been dropped on her yet, so keep your eyes peeled for updates and reveals.

You can listen to "Here, Tomorrow" and watch the beautiful animation that goes along with it below:

League of Legends updates

Season 2 comes in hot with the following updates in the gameplay front:

  • Goodbye Voracious and Ruinous Atakhan, hello Thornbound Atakhan. This new form kind of combines the best of both worlds in response to major complains about Voracious.

  • Void Grubs spawn only once and towards the end of the match now.

  • Rift Herald now spawns 15 minutes into the match and will be a little easier to take down.

  • During Champion Select, only junglers will be able to select Smite. Once the game starts, supports will automatically gain the World Atlas item.

  • Significant changes to the report system by improving the game's inting and griefing detection system, which will now automatically identify and take care of assholes, I mean, trolls. I don't understand why people still feel the need to trash talk in a freaking game.

  • New game mode: Brawl. A fast-paced 5v5 combat-focused game mode, one must push their minions into the enemy team's base in order to win. There are no towers or other objectives. This is going to be fun.
