Baby Steps, like life itself, is frustrating, broken, and weirdly beautiful

Confucious once stated, when speaking of the knowledge we retain in our journey's through life, is that "the only true wisdom is in knowing that you know nothing." To a certain extent, that's also what you experience when you first watch a trailer or gameplay of Baby Steps. You know exactly what you're getting while also having no idea what you're in for.
Yes, Baby Steps is a "walking simulator", but it's a walking simulator in the truest sense of the phrase, as you literally take your character's legs and move them in a combination of trigger buttons and the joystick, moving each foot to exactly where you need to while tipping the upper body to gain movement.
It's a surprisingly simple set up that just like any other game with Bennett Foddy's name on it, like love, happiness, and life itself, seems simple in theory and is, instead, filled with so much nonsense you feel as if it's weaponized against you.
Even the things that take forever that you're infinitely difficult that you spend time working towards gets shrugged off in the end with little to no fanfare. Nothing hit that home quite like spending 30 minutes trying to get a soccer ball to the end of a massive slopped hill only to get it in the goal and get treated to this celebration...
Yeah, that was something.
But here's the thing, there's something so compelling about this. It's not even like you're trying to save the world or even yourself. You're playing as a man that just needs a comfortable place to piss.
So every time you decide you need to kick a soccer ball or climb a tower...that's on you man. It's like being in real life. If you go into a park and climb a tree you know what's waiting for you up there? Fuck all. Now you're just a weird guy in a tree and people are suddenly putting their families back in the car and leaving.
In that, despite your character being isekai'd into this weird world whilst on a One Piece marathon, there's a realism to this. A thing where your choices are often met with the narrative equivalent of "what made you wanna do that?"
Baby Steps is infuriating but it's also a lot of fun, especially if others are watching you, considering that Bennett Foddy's success lies in him making streamer bait it's practically designed for it. It's fun, silly, and creates a TON of memorable moments and bizarre screenshots you'll forget about and then find and get confused by a year from now.

Just be forewarned, the very first thing you'll get before you even get into the game itself is this question about nudity.

"Some" depictions of nudity is the understatement of the year. I'm not going to tell you what you're in for, I'm not that reviewer, but I'm going to tell you that what you're going to see is going to bring out the truest form of themselves and you're going to have some conversations. Just...you know...you were warned.
