Smash it Wild demo review

Smash it Wild is a fun and entertaining game for those who love strategy and turn-based games. The roguelike aspect of the game adds even more tension and pressure as a single loss can be the end of your run.

In the demo, you can choose from three different teams. Each team is unique. Not only are they different animals, but they all have unique play styles. So even if one team's abilities don't work well for you, there are others to try. My favorite was the Totems. While it took me a little bit to understand their gameplay, it was a lot of fun once I figured it out. Won't admit to how long it took (a while), but I enjoyed the challenge from my first run through to my last.

The game starts off with a nice, short, and simple tutorial. Then you are managing your team.

Between matches, you make some choices that can either help your team or possibly hurt it. One time, I wasn't able to slot any rest for my team, so they went into their next match at half-strength, and it wasn't fun. I do love how the game lets you step into a manager/coach role. You choose the attacks, who receives, and placement of the ball, and it feels like you are in the game. You can earn money to spend on players, train to help level up your team, and even take part in events that have risks and benefits.

As I mentioned before, after one match, I didn't make sure that my team was well rested. Instead, I let them train and go to events. That came back to bite me as they weren't fully rested and had half stamina for the match. While I may have lost that one, it made me really think about what was coming next and how to carefully plan.

Smash it Wild was designed with the PC in mind. I played the game on both my PC and my Steam Deck and had no problems with either.

Smash it Wild game is set to be released late in 2025, and can now be wishlist-ed on Steam.
