Rejoicify! The Wicked: For Good trailer is here - and we have thoughts

Once upon a time, two friends became obsessed with the first Wicked movie. Ashley, a long-time theater kid who had seen the show live twice, loved the way they expanded on the story and lore, creating a perfect adaptation of the musical so close to her heart. Camila, on the other hand, had never seen the stage show and fell in love with the story of friendship and a new take on the land of Oz. The "To Be Continued..." at the end of Wicked left both of them anxiously awaiting the second movie, with November seeming entirely too far away.
But today let us rejoicify because the Wicked: For Good trailer just hit the internet, and WE BOTH HAVE THOUGHTS.
Camila: The New Fan - Spoiler Free Reactions
So... So much to unpack.
Again, I have no idea what's going to happen in Wicked: For Good as I never read Wicked, nor watched the play. So seeing Glinda in a wedding gown is equal parts cool yet puzzling, and seeing all these clips put together indicated that not only will this be a huge movie, but this one will probably hurt a lot.
Wicked's entire "scapegoat" vibe hit very hard when it came out, and Wicked: For Good is promising some more emotional damage - so I suppose a box of tissues would be a good item to bring to theaters to watch this.
Camila's Top Trailer Moments:
The music. I have become utterly obsessed with Cynthia Erivo's voice, and I've come to really enjoy Ariana Grande's ranges.
Fiyero. Because the man's hot.
That wedding gown is gorgeous.
Nod to The Wizard of Oz characters - I'm excited to see it all come together.
Ashley: The Forever Fan - Very Spoiler-y Reactions
Again, all the spoilers from the play start now, so if you keep reading, you can't say you weren't warned.
THANK GOODNESS FOR TODAY. I HAVE BEEN CHANGED FOR GOOD BY THIS WONDERFUL TRAILER. Okay, I think I got all the lyrical puns out of my system. Overall, I loved the hints of Elphaba and Fiyero's love story - and him turning his gun on the Wizard was INCREDIBLE. But what I loved most about the trailer is that it shows that, despite everything, Elphaba and Glinda's friendships are still the core of this movie. They will be tried and tested by each other and their choices (and the very angsty atmosphere the two have developed), but overall, they have changed each other For Good. (Okay, I had one more in me)
I am intrigued by some of the bigger changes from the musical that the trailer showed. We were already surprised to see Glinda's wedding dress in the trailers for the first movie, but now it seems clear that Fiyero is leaving her at the altar. YIKES. Like it’s bad enough to know he’s leaving her for Elphaba, but to leave Glinda at the altar? Well, it’s understandable why she’s upset enough to turn him over to the authorities. I was also surprised to see Glinda was there for what looked like the “Wonderful” dance sequence. I think the Wizard recruiting Elphaba’s bestie to help try to manipulate her is going to be rough to watch. I’m glad they are also fleshing out more of this story, because Act 2 is significantly weaker than Act 1, and giving it a chance to breathe and expand was the right choice. I'm also excited to see Dorothy as a character in this, as she's never shown in the musical - and I can't wait to see what her bigger role in the story is.
Ashley's Top Trailer Moments:
NO. GOOD. DEED. Okay, this is my FAVORITE song from Wicked, and hearing it made me have to pause the trailer and SCREAM.
The TORNADO. I truly love Michelle Yeoh’s performance and adore seeing her go full evil. She’s just going to get WORSE and I cannot WAIT.
Our Wizard Lies. Just so powerful to see it written out in the clouds.
For Good – this song is so iconic that they sang it at my high school graduation every year. And it made me tear up. Like it always does.
The first look at the Wizard of Oz clan - it was so smart to hide the faces of the characters we already know who transform into the Scarecrow and Tin Man, and focus on the Lion. Though I cannot WAIT to see what the final looks are for both of those characters.
Wicked: For Good comes out November 21st, and in the meantime, we'll be watching this trailer on repeat.
